WA – The Missing Chapter
After we suddenly had to stop our round trip through Western Australia at the beginning of 2020 and fly home without having achieved anything because of COVID-19, we felt the urge to catch up on the last week. The Missing Chapter – simply had to be finished. But as we didn’t want to come all the way for just one week, we made a complete tour out of it. We had registered early with our friends Chris and Darren and were thus able to start another adventure in a relaxed way. Because our friends in WA are English-speaking, I have decided to write the itinerary of the journey in their language.
By the way, should anyone wonder what all the titles of the blog posts are about, than take a look at What3Words. Basically, the coordinates exist in many languages. However, I chose German. So, never be afraid to click on a link.
Our Itinerary WA – The Missing Chapter – Travel period 2023-01-24 to 2023-02-19
2023-01-24 – Tuesday – Day 1 – monat.eisbär.seide
Weather: 2 °C, grey – Route: OD – HAM
Finally far away again and then Australia. We start with a first leisurely day off and then take the train to Hamburg. A nice first evening with delicious food and a nightcap. We spend the night directly at the airport. A little craziness on the train: no mask until the border to Hamburg, then with.
2023-01-25 – Wednesday – Day 2 – altertum.zeugnis.abgerufen
Weather: 1 °C, partly cloudy – Route: HAM – FRA – SIN …
Not the very first flight, but still an early flight to Frankfurt. Two hours in the Business Lounge and then on to Singapore in Business on the upper deck of the Airbus A380. Super service and once through the drinks menu. However, despite all the amenities, sleeping didn’t really work out.
2023-01-26 – Thursday – Day 3 – altertum.frühester.salbeitee
Weather: 27 °C, partly cloudy – Route: … SIN – PER … 21 km
Arrival in Singapore early in the morning and after another two hours onward flight to Australia. Destination Perth and on to Parkwood, just like three years ago. The weather is warm and sunny, the reunion indescribable and already the recovery begins. We celebrate a little more and toast our friendship. By the way, it is Australia Day.
2023-01-27 – Friday – Day 4 – redner.kopfhörer.aufsteiger
Weather: 28 °C, sunny – Route: Parkwood … 32 km
The first night is long and soothing. The first coffee of the day gives us the kick we need. We start very slowly and only do a small shopping tour. However, we spend most of our money at Aldi for coffee and a SIM card. We learn the rules of cricket and enjoy homemade pizza.
2023-01-28 – Saturday – Day 5 – staufer.sichert.schneeflocke
Weather: 32 °C, sunny – Route: Parkwood … 164 km
After a rest day, we start our programme with the first activity. We drive to Yanchep National Park to catch up on a point of the last tour. We start with Yanchep Tree Top Adventures and spend almost three hours in and among the trees in 30 degree Celsius. Afterwards we relax with a view of the koalas.
2023-01-29 – Sunday – Day 6 – befassen.berechtigt.distel
Weather: 37 °C, sunny – Route: Parkwood … 36 km
Sunday is English Breakfast day, so we don’t say no. Then we drive to downtown Perth. Optus Stadium, Matagarup Bridge, Elizabeth Quay and London Court. We pack light for the next three days and end the weekend with BBQ Chicken.
2023-01-30 – Monday – Day 7 – patentinhaber.mehrmals.raumsonden
Weather: 38 °C, sunny – Route: Parkwood – Fremantle … 88 km
After I spontaneously booked the ferry to Penguin Island and a tour yesterday, our first destination for our short trip starting today was set. We are having a great time on the water and on land. In Fremantle we move into a super nice room in a B&B and enjoy a wonderful evening in the brewery right on the water.
2023-01-31 – Tuesday – Day 8 – nordportal.landweg.breitengrad
Weather: 36 °C, sunny – Route: Fremantle – Rottnest Island
After breakfast we take the ferry to Rottnest Island. Best weather, but horrible bikes. We don’t complain and make the best of it. Great beaches, perfect food and glamping at its best. Oh yes, and lots of quokkas.
2023-02-01 – Wednesday – Day 9 – digitale.bewegte.kleine
Weather: 33 °C, sunny – Route: Rottnest Island – Fremantle – Parkwood … 18 km
Very good breakfast and an even better decision: we return the bikes and change to the bus. Once over the whole island with stops worth seeing. Of course we also go swimming. Back on the mainland we eat fish and drive back to Parkwood.
2023-02-02 – Thursday – Day 10 – kinderbuch.neutrale.erwacht
Weather: 34 °C, sunny – Route: Parkwood … 86 km
The weather continues to be good and we drive to Caversham. A really varied day with lots of kangaroos. Feeding is expressly encouraged. From all the animals we go to the chocolate factory. Somehow they are both sweet. Back in Parkwood we end the day with a BBQ.
2023-02-03 – Friday – Day 11 – wein.relevanten.laboratorien
Weather: 24 °C, partly cloudy – Route: Parkwood – Tenterden … 318 km
We start our round trip and drive from Parkwood along the Albany Hwy south to Tenterden. We walk at the foot of Mt Cooke, visit the Williams Woolshed and have interesting conversations over dinner at Travellers Rest B&B.
2023-02-04 – Saturday – Day 12 – villenkolonie.gesamthöhe.seins
Weather: 30 °C, sunny – Route: Tenterden … 177 km
Today we drive into the Stirling Range National Park. We have to drive for an hour before we can start the ascent to Bluff Knoll. We will remember this for days to come. On holiday, sometimes things go wrong too. In the afternoon, for example, the capture of my drone. Lots of blood, but without serious consequences. The emergency care works excellently. In the evening, good food and fun with the mouse.
2023-02-05 – Sunday – Day 13 – speichermedium.spielprinzip.seitenschiff
Weather: 28 °C, sunny – Route: Tenterden – Jerramungup … 226 km
The day begins after departure with a visit to Mt Barker Bakery. Pies for dinner and breakfast (but we didn’t know that yet). Then it’s off to Porongurp National Park for a great hike past Devil’s Slide. Our destination Jerramungup is small and manageable, the accommodation simple but sufficient for one night.
2023-02-06 – Monday – Day 14 – leim.currywurst.feinen
Weather: 34 °C, partly cloudy – Route: Jerramungup – Esperance … 322 km
We continue on to Esperance. This is the destination we had to miss completely in 2020. We stay three nights, have a super good flat and don’t regret for a moment that we made the trip there. What we will experience in the next few days is more than worth the effort.
2023-02-07 – Tuesday – Day 15 – räumte.vierfache.nordturm
Weather: 25 °C, partly cloudy – Route: Esperance … 69 km
Actually, we wanted to visit two national parks in two days, but today we spend more than half the day on the Great Ocean Rd and also enjoy our time on the beach and in the sea.
2023-02-08 – Wednesday – Day 16 – einschlafen.wächst.schätzte
Weather: 22 °C, partly cloudy – Route: Esperance … 143 km
Suddenly there is only enough time for one national park and we drive to Cape Le Grand. Today, for the first time, the weather is not quite so good. But we don’t want to complain. Lots of exciting stops and lots of fun. At the end of the day, the sun comes out once again and we enjoy delicious tapas with a view over the ocean.
2023-02-09 – Thursday – Day 17 – spätromantik.akkord.gallisch
Weather: 22 °C, sunny – Route: Esperance – Bremer Bay … 437 km
It’s my birthday again and we spend most of the day in the car. The longest leg of the journey takes us to Bremer Bay today. The accommodation is okay, but nothing more. But the food is really good and we gather many impressions on Point Henry beforehand.
2023-02-10 – Friday – Day 18 – streckenweise.kabrium.überredete
Weather: 29 °C, sunny – Route: Bremer Bay … 156 km
We want to go to the Fitzgerald River National Park, but the road demands too much of us. So we turn around and try Dillon Beach. But here too we have to give up. So once again Point Henry and Bremer Bay Beach. We have a wonderful time there and celebrate life and health in the evening at the brewery. It is a little bit too loud, but beer and food is excellent.
2023-02-11 – Saturday – Day 19 – unterholz.geisterstunde.prämissen
Weather: 22 °C, partly cloudy – Route: Bremer Bay – Denmark … 310 km
We have the most expensive breakfast of the trip, but only because we chose it that way, and we leave Bremer Bay. On the way to Albany we visit Nanarup Lagoon and enjoy the view of one of the most beautiful points of our trip. In Albany we visit the Wilson Brewery and have an incredible Wagyu Beef Dog. We are also lucky with the accommodation, one of the best on the round trip.
2023-02-12 – Sunday – Day 20 – reichhaltige.erwünschte.drehzahlen
Weather: 22 °C, sunny – Route: Denmark … 89 km
Breakfast at Mrs Jones Cafe and then to William Bay National Park with our swimsuits. Elephant Rocks, Greens Pool and snorkelling. At the end Madfish Bay and a second round on Ocean Beach Rd. At sunset delicious food on our terrace and in the late evening the Milky Way directly above us.
2023-02-13 – Monday – Day 21 – bringt.wirkungsbereich.verlangsamung
Weather: 27 °C, partly cloudy – Route: Denmark – Manjimup … 230 km
Once more to the Mrs Jones Cafe and then on the road again. At the beginning of the day, another swim in Madfish Bay and then to the Valley of the Giants. Best weather on the Tree Top Walk and a few more stops on the way to Manjimup. Super dinner.
2023-02-14 – Tuesday – Day 22 – unüberschaubar.menschenrechten.dampfnudel
Weather: 25 °C, partly cloudy – Route: Manjimup – Margaret River … 202 km
The motel was average, so it’s good that it goes straight on. We visit Jewel Cave and have an impressive time. Next stop Hamelin Bay, but only one stingray at the time. We enjoy the beach and the peace and then drive to Margaret River.
2023-02-15 – Wednesday – Day 23 – gebauter.produktivität.fixpreis
Weather: 24 °C, partly cloudy – Route: Margaret River … 128 km
Today we head to Hamelin Bay right after breakfast and manage to get some stunning shots with some stingrays. Then it’s off to Cape Leeuwin and into the sun all day. In the afternoon we go swimming again and have Granny’s pool all to ourselves. In the evening at the Margaret River Brewery.
2023-02-16 – Thursday – Day 24 – bescheinigt.greift.annimmt
Weather: 24 °C, partly cloudy – Route: Margaret River – Parkwood … 294 km
We finish our tour and drive back to Parkwood. On the way we visit the Busselton Jetty and Lake Clifton again. At the beginning of the day we have the first rain, but it doesn’t last very long. We end the day with a very good meal.
2023-02-17 – Friday – Day 25 – schlicht.zärtlich.berechnungen
Weather: 30 °C, sunny – Route: Parkwood … 92 km
Last day, relaxing day. We visit Perth Zoo and then drive to John Forest National Park. Selfie with kangaroo and BBQ all together again. The suitcases are almost packed and we are already sad and wistful.
2023-02-18 – Saturday – Day 26 – gefälscht.cremig.zaun
Weather: 36 °C, sunny – Route: Parkwood – PER – SIN … 21 km
Departure day, we spend a few more relaxing hours outside and then drive to the airport. Saying goodbye is really hard for us. The flight is on time and the five hours to Singapore are quickly wasted.
2023-02-19 – Sunday – Day 27 – obersten.trinken.flaschen
Weather: 8 °C, sunny – Route: … SIN – MUC – HAM – OD
13 hours from Singapore to Munich and the night seems endless. The rest is then almost routine and we feel surprisingly well after so many hours. By taxi home and then everyday life will quickly catch up with us again.
What We Left Behind!
First of all very good friends, a cute white rabbit, very good food, excellent beer, warm temperatures, calm people and the longing for a country that inspired us a second time in a special way. Considering the sheer size of Australia and that we’ve only gotten a glimpse of it, it’s clear what still needs to be done – a lot. So we will use our time and plan further trips. During our current trip we drove 3659 kilometers, have filled up 185 liters of petrol and spent 344 AUD on it. We saw some things we already knew and many new ones. Our round trip was essentially the same as in 2020, but in reverse order. We tried to make our stops where we drove past last time. Basically, this trip was about catching up on some points from 2020. The focus was on Yanchep NP and Esperance. Esperance was definitely worth the effort and gave us unforgettable moments on the most beautiful beaches in Australia. In the end we are grateful for so much hospitality and the experiences we made.
